Hi, I am John Miezitis, an HPC Systems Engineer with the University of Tasmania 

 My career

I currently work for the Digital Research team at the University of Tasmania.  I have two roles Secnior HPC Systems Engineer and Digital Research Networks Architect. I have been in these roles since 2017.

2005 - 2017 : University of Tasmania : Communications Technology Manager, Network and Unix Systems Team leader.
2000 - 2005 : Telstra : IT Network Specialist for Networking Tasmania Project
1989 - 2000 : University of Tasmania : Network Engineer
1987 - 1989 : International Computers Limited : Computing Engineer
1986 - 1987 : Hydro Electric Commission : Power Engineer

Hobbies

Music : I play trombone and euphonium and most recently have performed in Glenorchy City Concert Brass C grade band, Matthew Ives and his Big Band, Southern Lights Big Band.  I can also make a tune with piano and guitar but not to a public performance level.

Reading: Favourite authors are J.R.R.Tolkien, Raymond Feist, Stephen Donaldson, Isaac Asimov, Arthur C Clarke, Terry Pratchett, Markus Zusak.

Sport: Have played hockey, netball, touch football, wheelchair basketball, wheelchair netball, skiing.

Crafts: Wood and metal work with a particular focus on Japanese wood crafts.

 Travel

Favourite international destination is Japan.  Great people, great food and culture.

Favourite Australian destination is home.
